Team History
The Holland FIRST Robotics team was created in 1994. We haven’t always been the Holland CHAOS; we were previously known as The Holland Hot Heads, Team Phantom, Flaming Dutch, and The Holland Dutch. In the past few years, we have worked extensively to improve and redefine our branding strategy by settling on the name CHAOS and designing a new logo. By designing a logo that is meaningful to us as a team, we allow each member to embrace the strong tradition of Holland FIRST Robotics, while still celebrating the uniqueness that comes from the new members of the team each year, and empower them to create strong friendships along the way. Over the course of many weeks of discussion and team votes, we decided on the name CHAOS, which represents Creativity, Hustle, Achievement, Opportunity, and Success. These are the qualities that FIRST embodies to us as individuals and as a team. Septima Clark, African-American civil rights activist (1898–1987), stated, “I have great belief in the fact that whenever there is chaos, it creates wonderful thinking. I consider chaos a gift.”
Holland CHAOS was the original FIRST team In West Michigan. FIRST has provided the opportunity, and our sponsors have given us the resources to build a winning team and to have a positive effect on the community around us. The rich history and success of this team and makes us strive harder to succeed these coming years.
